Our trip to BBC Radio Surrey

Our trip to BBC Radio Surrey

Last Saturday we were invited to BBC Radio Surrey to talk to James Cannon about our 70 years in the jewellery business as well as our experiences of retailing in Sutton.

We had a great time chatting with James about the importance of rewarding customers and how vital it is for high street shops to engage with customers on a personal level.

We wouldn’t be in our 70th year of business without the support of our customers so rewarding loyalty is something we feel very strongly about. Our platinum anniversary is the ideal opportunity to give something back to our customers, therefore we will be running a prize draw throughout 2017 and a special offer on all our platinum jewellery. To top off our anniversary year, we will be holding a summer party to celebrate our significant milestone.

It is the quality of our jewellery, but also the quality of our customer service that has kept us at the heart of Sutton for so long. With the rise in popularity of online shopping, we have ensured we grow with the times with the launch of our ecommerce site. However, it is our place in the local community and our dedication to providing an unforgettable customer experience that is at the centre of everything we do and has kept our business thriving all of these years.

Good things come in threes

Good things come in threes

Two’s company three’s a crowd certainly doesn’t apply when it comes to buying gold. Ever wondered why you find that gold comes in various different colours, predominantly gold, rose gold and white gold? The simplest answer is that pure 24 carat gold is extremely soft to work with; therefore gold is combined with other metals to create a more durable alloy more suited to wearing as jewellery. Gold alloys can including silver, copper, zinc, manganese, palladium and platinum, all having different effects on the colour and durability of the gold in your jewellery.

Gold Carats
Gold is measured in carats, so, pure gold is made up of 24 carats, but is so soft that you can easily mark it by hand. 18 carat gold is made up of 18 parts of pure gold per 24 parts of metal and 9 carat gold to a ratio of 9/24. Therefore the UK standards of 18 and 9 carat gold contain 75% and 37.5% of pure gold respectively and are hallmarked accordingly.

White Gold
If you are buying a white gold piece of jewellery you could see anything from a light silver shade to a darker gunmetal tone depending on the alloy but the majority of white gold is also finished with rhodium to leave the piece with a bright white polish.

Gold
Gold has always been desired for its unique warm tones and remains a leading global commodity. It is often used with gem stones to add depth and colour to a finished piece of jewellery.

Rose Gold
Another variation to the family is rose gold, sometimes called red or pink gold. As a rule of thumb, the more copper used in the alloy the more rose, pink or red it will be. Rose gold has romantic vintage appeal but now has a firm hold on contemporary jewellery design.

So whether you are coming up roses, basking in sunshine or looking chic with silvery tones, there is a gold out there for everyone. And for those that can’t decide? All three complement each other beautifully, as seen below!

Celebrating 70 years of Warrenders

Celebrating 70 years of Warrenders
2017 is no ordinary year for us here at Warrenders. It marks an incredible 70 years since Stanley Warrender first founded our family run business!

Since opening in 1947 we have gone from a modest operation with just a receipt book, a safe and a small amount of jewellery, to a respected name in the jewellery world creating bespoke pieces for the likes of celebrities and the royal family. We have become renowned for our wealth of expertise, experience and specialist staff, with the Warrenders name associated with impeccable quality, highly skilled craftsmanship and creativity.

Looking back over the years we have amassed an impressive number of unique and beautiful commissions. This has included working with the prestigious Epsom Downs Racecourse where we are responsible for creating the cufflinks and brooches that are presented to the winners of the greatest flat race in the world, The Investec Derby.

In 2017 we are taking our 70th milestone as opportunity to celebrate everything we have achieved so far and also look with excitement to the future. Adding even more depth to the bricks and mortar and future of Warrenders is the launch of our brand new website with e-commerce store. And as 70 years is a platinum anniversary, celebrations continue with a 20% discount on all platinum jewellery in-store throughout 2017, a prize draw with a top prize of £1,000 to spend in store and a brand new Platinum Anniversary Collection.
